DAVID CRONENBERG: The existentialist project is not an easy one. One the other hand, most religions make their religion not easy either and maybe that is an sort of unconscious acceptance of the human condition’s reality. There is no easy route to heaven, you have to pray six times a day or whatever it is that your religion demands. It’s not easy and to me that is an unspoken acceptance of the reality of the human condition which is that it’s not going to be easy. It ends badly, the story. It ends badly if you like life and you don’t want to die, then everybody has a bad ending to their personal story.
