Mill Street and Parliament

Standing-in for Brundle’s home and laboratory, the Distillery District’s old brick warehouse provides a stark contrast to the futuristic experiments happening within. Perhaps seeming all the more foreign in this turn-of-the-century building, the telepods are actually based on the cylinder head and barrel design of a Ducati motorcycle, taken from Cronenberg’s own collection.

The Distillery District also stands in for the Interzone in Naked Lunch. Initially slated to shoot in Tangiers, the outbreak of the Gulf War prevented Cronenberg from going on location for this film. Instead, he and his team opted to recreate Lee’s hallucinatory version of Morocco in Toronto.

The Distillery District has since undergone a significant revitalization and is unrecognizable from the cold, warehouse spaces seen in Cronenberg’s films.
